Beef Cattle
1/11/25. Please let us know soon if you want wonderful beef!
How long is 2 years? Sometimes forever and sometimes the blink of an eye!
Tina and I were talking about harvesting 4 of our beef cattle this winter and spring. She asked, "Are they a year old?". I laughed and reminded her that they are already 2 years old!!! These are grass fed and grass finished cattle. They take longer to finish than grain fed cattle. Grain fed finish in about 12-15 months. Grass fed and finished take about 2 years to be ready for harvesting.
So...we are harvesting 2 of them later this month and the other 2 in March or April.
If you are interested in a 1/4 or 1/2 of beef (or a whole cow if you have lots of room in your freezer :) ), please let us know.
Here's how this works.
- This time we are taking the beef to Richland Meat Locker on 1/26/25.
- The animals are prepared and dressed and hung to determine the hanging weight of each side.
- You will then pay us $4.10/lb hanging weight. If the hanging weight was 400 lbs for the side, then you would pay us 400 x $4.10 for the side if you wanted 1/2. If you wanted a 1/4 then you would pay 200 x $4.10 for the 1/4.
- Next, you'll talk to Richland and tell them how you want your meat processed.
- The meat hangs for at least 7 days to age and then is processed per your directions.
- You pick up your meat about the 10th of February at Richland Meat Locker and pay them for the processing of your meat.
- Now, you get to enjoy 100% grass fed beef!
